Lawson Cypress (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana) is a tall, evergreen conifer native to the Pacific Northwest of the United States, particularly Oregon and California. Known for its graceful, pyramidal form and feathery, scale-like foliage, it is widely used as an ornamental tree in landscapes, parks, and gardens.
The tree features dense, drooping branchlets and foliage that ranges from deep green to blue-green, depending on the cultivar. Its bark is reddish-brown and fibrous, and mature trees can reach heights of 100–200 feet in their native habitat, though cultivated varieties are often much smaller.
Lawson Cypress prefers moist, well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. It is prized for its attractive form, variety of cultivars, and high-quality, durable wood.
Valued for its beauty and versatility, Lawson Cypress remains a popular choice for hedges, screens, and ornamental plantings.
